Seventeen Years of Influence

Most of my childhood memories and life lessons revolve around my grandparents' farm. As a little kid I "helped " my Grandpa Virgil feed cattle and kept him company in the tractor during hay season. I would ride with him on the four-wheeler and check cattle and water gaps. I was never patient when I was little, in fact I am still impatient, but my Grandpa would always remind me that, "Patience is a virtue."

I enjoyed "helping" my Grandpa feeding the cows.

When I wasn't by Grandpa's side I was right next to my Grandma Sharon and my Great-Grandma Arnold "Granny". We were either baking or working in Granny's garden. There was one summer were I planted watermelon and my brother Kurt planted corn. Long story short my watermelon was as wide as a softball and didn't taste very good, but I remember being so excited that I grew my own green melon. My Grandma and Granny helped me and my siblings prepare for the county fair and bake food for our 4-H exhibits. One year I thought I would try to make my own beef jerky, I recommend buying jerky not making it. Another year I made a chocolate cake from scratch. Granny was by my side teaching me all of her tricks, she made the best angel food cake, cinnamon rolls, and German Chocolate Cake.
Granny would always let me play in her garden, I think I stepped on more plants than I helped grow.
My Grandparents are huge influences on my life and what I want to do in the future. They taught me to be kind to others and to be willing to give back to the community with a smile on my face and heart. I want to study agriculture and help produce food safely for the consumer. Those visits to my Grandparents' influenced me to become the person I am today.
